December,
2010:
The inaugural Hong Kong International
Races tour concluded today with much acclaim from a group of wonderful
guests.
Staged over 7 nights, the 34 person group flew with raceday sponsor Cathay
Pacific and stayed at the beautifully located Marco Polo Hong Kong at
Kowloon. Situated right on Hong Kong Harbour and a short walk to Nathan
Road, the Marco Polo is close to a host of high class shopping precincts.
The rooms at the Marco Polo were large and very comfortable, whilst the
buffet breakfast was most popular.
The racing action at Sha Tin on International Day was top class, as were our
exclusive tables in the luxurious Champions Circle suite. In between dining
on imported lobster and oysters, our guests managed to find a winner or two.
The highlight of the day was the win of brilliant English filly Snow Fairy.
We also enjoyed another fabulous raceday at Happy Valley where we were again
very well looked after by the Hong Kong Jockey Club in a beautiful box
overlooking the course.
For the gentleman, the invitation only Carbine Club luncheon at the Grand
Hyatt was particularly memorable. The highlight was the banter by guest
speaker John Wheeler, the New Zealand trainer of the great Rough Habit and a
regular visitor to Queensland.
The very popular Cathay Pacific Gala Party was held this year across the
road from our hotel at the beautiful Hullet House. During the evening our
group mingled with international racing personalities and enjoyed a variety
of meals washed down by a a beverage or two !
Breakfast with the stars at Sha Tin gave guests a wonderful chance to take a
look around the track whilst watching the stars go through their work, prior
to the barrier draw later in the morning.
Thanks to the team at Zeppelin travel for putting the tour together, along
with my co-host Jennie Bartels and also our very affable local tour guide
Norman Kam.
Planning has already commenced for the 2011 tour which is sure to be as
popular. The Hong Kong Tour is set to become a fixture on the Ontrack tour
roster, joining our other popular boutique trips to the Hunter Valley and
New Zealand.
