Bailey
to Target Stradbroke with Barlinnie
Monday 23 March, 2009: Following a luckless Melbourne campaign, talented
galloper Barlinnie has returned to Queensland for a short break before
targeting the $1m Stradbroke Handicap (1400m).
The Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap will be run at Eagle Farm on Saturday 6
June.
Barlinnie will have just one run prior to the Stradbroke, contesting the
Group 3 Darley BTC Sprint (1350m) at Doomben on 16 May.
Barlinnie boasts impressive second up form having won four from four
attempts.
“He ran really well first up when second at Caulfield despite drawing wide
and not having much work leading into the race due to the heat,” said
Bailey.
“At his next start he drew wide again and lost a shoe in running but was
beaten just 1.8 len fifth.”
“In the Blamey, he drew wide yet again, and then it rained just prior to the
race making it a slow track which he isn’t as affective on.”
“He earned prizemoney at each start, but you need more things to go your way
in the better races when you go on the road.”
Bailey looks to have a strong hand in the Winter three year-old races with
promising young gallopers Doonbah Star and Little Mel.
Both horses are back in work at Bailey’s Gold Coast Stables.
Doonbah Star has won 3 of his 4 starts including an easy last start win at
Doomben over 1350m on 1 November.
A very good looking son of Falvelon, Doonbah Star will be in search of black
type this preparation to enhance his stud value.
A son of AJC Derby winner Universal Prince, Little Mel has a similarly
impressive record having won 4 of his 6 starts.
A Magic Millions graduate, Little Mel was unlucky not to of gained a start
in the three year-old Magic Millions last January when an emergency.
He won his next start in a strong performance to score at Eagle Farm on
January 17.
