Barlinnie Earns a Spell Following Listed Second

Saturday 20 June, 2009: Smart middle distance performer Barlinnie will head to the spelling paddock following a strong second in the Listed Centenary Mile (1600m) at Eagle Farm today.

With Scott Galloway partnering Barlinnie for the first time, the pair faced a tough task from a wide gate.

Unable to slot in, Galloway pressed on to sit outside leader Rags To Riches.

Eventual winner Soiled enjoyed the run of the race behind Barlinnie, and proved too strong over the concluding stages to triumph by 1 length and a quarter.

Barlinnie will head to the spelling paddock now and will bypass the Spring to again concentrate on the Summer Triple Crown in Brisbane during December

The Summer Triple Crown consists of three $200,000 races at Doomben, commencing with the George Moore Stks (1200m) on 5 December, 2009.

The second leg is the Listed Doomben Stks (1350m) on 19 December, whilst the third and final leg is the Bernborough Hcp (1600m) on 26 December.

Barlinnie scored a strong victory in last years $200,000 Doomben Stakes defeating Forestreno and Mitanni.
