Barlinnie Secured to Race in Queensland

Highly promising middle distance
galloper BARLINNIE has been purchased to do his future racing in Queensland
under Gold Coast trainer Trevor Bailey.
The sale was negotiated by Grant
Morgan of Ontrack Thoroughbreds, acting as agent for a Victorian based owner
who will race the horse in partnership.
Barlinnie is a lightly raced
four year-old who has won 6 of his 12 starts in Victoria under the care of
Caulfield trainer Peter Moody.
His career best performance came three runs back when a narrow second at
Flemington in the $352,000 Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m).
A gelding by St Petersburg, Barlinnie’s outstanding form also includes wins
over smart galloper Sunburnt Land, Lazer Sharp, with form around top
gallopers Gotta Have Heart, The Fuzz and Orange County.
His six career wins have come at a distance range of 1400m-1800m during his
initial 12 months of racing.
Currently spelling, Barlinnie will be aimed at the Summer Triple Crown in
Queensland later this year.
The triple crown consists of the Gr 3 $200,000 Summer Stakes (1200m), Listed
$200,000 Doomben Stakes (1350m) and Listed $200,000 Bernborough Hcp (1600m)
all at Doomben.
Beyond that races like the Group 1 $1m Stradbroke Hcp (1400m) or the Gr 1
$500,000 Doomben Cup (2020m) are possible targets.
With an on pace racing pattern, Barlinnie is particularly effective off a
short preparation when kept fresh.
Barlinnie is a son of Stakeswinning Nureyev stallion St Petersburg who from
3 crops of racing age has produced the good record of 29 individual winners,
two stakeswinners and one stakes placegetter, all from limited opportunity
in New Zealand.
Out of the Veloso mare Strangeways, Barlinnie is also a half brother to Gr 2
winner Maze and Listed winner Penitentiary.
Considering the price of unproven yearlings, purchasing a proven tried horse
of Barlinnie’s quality presents owners with an outstanding opportunity to
experience racing at the highest level.
