Caulfield Wins Strengthen Barlinnie Form
Saturday
20 September, 2008:
The
impressive victories by Orange County and Sunburnt Land at Caulfield on
Saturday have added to the merit of Queensland import Barlinnie.
Barlinnie has finished ahead of both Orange County and Sunburnt Land during
his impressive 12 start career in Melbourne which netted 6 victories.
Orange County claimed his first Group 1 victory in the $352,000 Rupert
Clarke Stakes (1400m). In doing so, Orange County accounted for a strong
field including last years Rupert Clarke winner Bon Hoffa.
Just three runs back, Barlinnie was a half head second to The Fuzz in the
Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m) at Flemington. Orange County was a length and
a half away in third place.
Earlier in the star studded Caulfield program, the highly
promising Sunburnt Land landed good wagers to win the Hussonet Cup (1200m)
at his first run back from a spell.
With that strong first up victory under his belt, Sunburnt Land looks set to
graduate to Group company during the carnival.
Balinnie’s record also includes a strong 1.8 length defeat over Sunburnt
Land at Sandown Lakeside over 1500m.
Purchased by a syndicate to do his future racing in Queensland, Barlinnie is
now in work with Gold Coast trainer Trevor Bailey.
After bypassing spring races, Barlinnie will be aimed at some of
Queensland’s richest middle distance races.
They include the $200,000 City Pacific Finance Doomben Stakes (1350m)
Saturday 20 December and the $200,000 Listed City Pacific Finance
Bernborough Hcp (1615m).
Limited shares are available in Barlinnie, priced from $11,000.
