The impressive bay colt was bred
by famed Cambridge nursery Trelawney Stud.
The colt will be prepared at Caulfield by Mick Price.
"Darci Brahma is a young stallion I have been
impressed with from the moment he entered stud," said Grant Morgan.
"His first crop is putting runs on the board in all corners of the globe
highlighted by Super Easy (last weeks Singapore Gr 2 winner) and smart
Sydney 3yo Darci Be Good.
"This colt breezed up very well in 10.87 and did it pretty easily."
"He is a beautifully balanced colt with a great international female line."
After compiling a short list of 30 horses, the two top
selections by Ontrack Thoroughbreds proved to be the respective sale
toppers.
A colt by Pins from Caulfield Cup runner up Laebeel
(lot 185) fetched $390,000 to the bid of leading Hong Kong trainer David
Hall.
"I really wanted to buy a nice New Zealand bred stayer at this sale and this
colt was clearly the top pick but proved too popular," said Grant Morgan.
"We don't get many opportunities to buy these sort of colts out of a
Caulfield Cup placegetter by Zabeel and by a very good young sire in Pins.
"I'll be surprised if he doesn't make the grade in Hong Kong and I will
follow him with interest."
The top priced filly at the sale was Esker Lodge's Fastnet Rock filly (lot
310) who was purchased by Bahen Bloodstock for $450,000.
"A lovely filly who was ultra impressive in her breeze up."
"Fastnet Rock's stocks are just rising all the time, so its no surprise this
filly fetched such a high price."
During the sale, Ontrack Thoroughbreds was also the
under bidder on five other lots during the sale.
These were a Zabeel colt (lot 198, John Foote
Bloodstock $240,000), an Exceed and Excel filly (lot 225, Wong Home
Investment Singapore, $200,000), a Darci Brahma colt (lot 277, Laurie Laxon,
$130,000), a Danzero filly (lot 279, Tim Martin, $150,000) and a Street
Sense colt (lot 304, Lisa Latta, $160,000).
"This was a particularly tough sale to buy at. The
buying bench was very strong from all parts of the globe, but particularly
Australia and Hong Kong," said Morgan.
