Doonbah Star to stay at home

Friday 7 November, 2008: The temptation of a hit and run visit to Melbourne has given way to some attractive local goals for Doonbah Star and trainer Trevor Bailey.

After winning his last three starts in slashing style, Bailey was eyeing the Group 2 $350,000 Sandown Guineas (1600m).

But plans to head south have been shelved after reviewing available races in Queensland.

“There are some very good races coming up in Queensland, and when you compare prizemoney it’s more worthwhile staying here rather than going down for one race,” said Bailey.

“Whilst he isn’t a Magic Millions horse, there are some good black type three year-old races which could enhance his stud value.”

These races include the $100,000 Listed Gold Edition Plate (1200m) and the Listed $150,000 Vo Rogue Plate (1350m) at Doomben on December 27.

Doonbah Star is likely to step out next at Eagle Farm in an $80,000 QTIS Three Year-Old Handicap (1200m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday 29 November.
