Gelding and a spell for Flying Minstrel

Monday 3 January, 2011: Flying Minstrel is set to be gelded and sent to the spelling paddock after failing at the Gold Coast yesterday.

“Nothing worried him last preparation but he started to show that he hasn’t got his mind on racing anymore,” said trainer Trevor Bailey.

“I’ve recommended to the owners that we geld him immediately and spell him.

“We’ve had him thoroughly checked by the vets and there are no abnormalities. Hopefully gelding will switch him back on and we will see the best of him again.”

“It’s a shame for the owners as it looked like he was shaping up as a stallion prospect if he continued to stakes grade.

“But the first priority is always to make them racehorses and now we must focus on that.

Flying Minstrel won his first two starts as a two year-old in impressive fashion, with an effortless debut win at the Sunshine coast followed by a 5 length romp at Doomben.

He resumed at Wyong in the Magic Millions 3yo (1200m) where he was sent out a warm $2.30 favourite before weakening out of the race to finish last.
