Wednesday

July, 2008:
Highly regarded young horseman Leon Davies has commenced training after
accepting a senior management position with top Tamworth farm Stratheden
Stud.
25 year-old Davies has set up a small stable at Tamworth together with long
time partner Melissa Dennett, another highly regarded horseperson.
Leon is well known to Queenslanders having worked for a number of leading
trainers and farms, with his most recent position as Manager of the well
appointed Canungra property Benoble Park.
Having cut his teeth under a host of leading trainers including Gai
Waterhouse, Alan Bailey, and more recently Bryan Guy, Leon provides a
welcome injection of talent to the upper Hunter Valley training ranks.
Born in the small Queensland township of St George, Leon initially ventured
to Sydney to gain valuable experience under Waterhouse.
During that time he rode several high class gallopers including brilliant
sprinters Group 1 winning sprinters Assertive Lad and Snowland.
Leon ranks Takeover Target as the best horse he has ridden, with the highly
experienced rider partnering the Joe Janiak galloper the day prior to his
Doomben 10,000 victory.
Widely regarded as one of the best work riders in South East Queensland,
Leon is preparing a select team at booming Equine centre Tamworth.
Tamworth boasts an outstanding racing complex which is now complimented by
the $28m Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre (AELEC).
