November,
2008:
Universal
Prince three year-old Little Mel has wasted little time going through his
grades to record a third start Brisbane Saturday victory at Eagle Farm
today.
The Trevor Bailey prepared three year-old was perfectly ridden by the
patient Scott Galloway, who timed his finishing run to perfection.
Travelling in a midfield position, Little Mel (4.00 fav) overcame a tendency
to over race before sustaining a good turn of foot in the straight to score
a neck victory from Delago Pilli (8.00), with Tikit To Glory (8.00) a
further short half head back in third place.
Little Mel won on debut at the Gold Coast on the 25th of October,
before finishing second at the same track in Class 1 company on Melbourne
Cup Day.
Thrown in the deep end at just his third start, Little Mel graduated to
three year-old open company in style adding another $32,000 to his
prizemoney total which now sits at $40,500.
Little Mel was an inexpensive $36,000 Yearling purchase at the 2007 Magic
Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
Little Mel is owned by Denmark based owner Stephen Hoffmeister.
Hoffmeister will shortly jet into the Gold Coast with the hope of Little Mel
competing on Magic Millions day, which is set down for Saturday January 10,
2009.
Little Mel's
win was the first leg of a two track double for trainer Trevor Bailey.
Moonan Kathleen made it back to back wins scoring at the Gold Coast later in
the day.
Well ridden by apprentice Tasha Chambers, Moonan Kathleen looked right at
home on the soft track to score a solid length win in the Class 1 (1000m).
