Little
Mel strong on debut
Saturday

October,
2008:
Despite lacking the
experience of a public trial, robust looking three year-old Little Mel
looked smart scoring on debut at the Gold Coast today.
The Trevor Bailey trained galloper looked all at sea early settling well
back in the field of nine.
With Terry Treichel in the saddle, Little Mel ($6.00) balanced up in the
straight before unleashing a powerful burst to defeat another debutant in Mr
Nappy form the John Morrisey stable.
Little Mel was purchased at the 2007 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale
for just $36,000.
By the AJC Derby winner Universal Prince, Little Mel was selected for owner
Stephan Hoffmeister by Alan and Trevor Bailey.
Based in Denmark, Hoffmeister has enjoyed previous success with the Bailey
stable in the shape of former handy sprinter Mel.
Mel won 4 races from 12 starts, whilst he was stakesplaced as a two year-old
in the Meynink Stakes and Tommy Smith Slipper.
Prepared by Alan Bailey, Mel finished a close sixth in Mirror Mirror's 2006
Magic Millions Two Year-Old Classic.
Little Mel is out of unraced Seattle Song mare Sleepy Seattle, now the dam
of 5 winners from 7 to race.
Buster Dream, a half brother to Little Mel, was also prepared by Alan and
Trevor Bailey.
By Housebuster, Buster Dream won 4 races in Melbourne and South Australia.
