Saturday 4 February, 2012: Ontrack Thoroughbreds has secured a
quality daughter of exciting first season sire Alamosa at the New Zealand
Bloodstock Premier Sale at Karaka.
Lot 55 was secured for $100k NZ from the draft of famed New Zealand nursery
Trelawney Stud.
She will be syndicated into the stables of Caulfield trainer Mick Price, the
man who put the polish on Alamosa to win a Group 1 Toorak Handicap.
The filly is out of the Group 2 winning mare Astralita, the dam of the well
performed international performer Astronomia.
Astronomia was an outstanding racehorse when first prepared by Gai
Waterhouse before she was sent to America where she won a stakes race at
Belmont Park.
"This is a wonderful family to buying into at the moment," said Ontrack
Thoroughbreds Grant Morgan.
"Sheikh Mohammed still owns Astronomia and she has unraced foals by Zabeel,
Exceed and Excel and Medaglia d'Oro, with the oldest being a two year-old."
"This filly is an outstanding type and I believe we have snuck under the
radar a bit with her as far as price goes."
"I thought she would make around $150k. Perhaps if she sold on day 2 when
the sale picked up she would of."
"The Alamosa yearlings have impressed me. They are all very strong athletic
types and they have sold well," said Morgan.
