Saturday 4 February, 2012: Ontrack Thoroughbreds completed its New
Zealand shopping list by securing a lovely grey filly by impressive first
season sire Sir Percy.
Lot 178 from the Curraghmore Stud draft, the filly was purchased for $130k
NZ.
She will be syndicated into the Caulfield stables of leading trainer Peter
Moody.
Sir Percy stands in New Zealand at Rich Hill Stud, alongside leading sire
Pentire.
A son of Mark of Esteem, Sir Percy was good enough to win 4 races as a two
year-old before training on as a three year-old to score in the Epsom Derby.
"Sir Percy is a stallion I have watched with interest over the past two
years when I have visited New Zealand," said Ontrack Thoroughbreds Grant
Morgan.
"He is such a strong type of horse and not your typical English bred staying
type. He is made more like a sprinter miler and you can see why he got up
and ran at two."
"This filly is made very much in the image of her sire as far as body shape
goes. She is a carbon copy of him, obviously ignoring her colour."
"This filly has a fabulous pedigree also. She is out of a Daylami mare, out
of a Sadler's Wells Mare, out of a Mill Reef mare. Genetically it doesn't
get much better than that, and it appears a very good mating considering Sir
Percy has Shirley Heights in him," said Morgan.
