RIP Competitive
Edge
Sad news from the Gold Coast trials (19
July) with five year-old Competitive Edge fracturing his shoulder in
his trial heat.
Unfortunately due to the extent of the injury the horse couldn't be saved.
Competitive Edge was recovering from a tendon injury which sidelined him for
two years.
"The tendon was perfect and was giving him no problems. He almost won at his
second start back for us," said trainer Trevor Bailey.
"Last start he got his tongue over the bit and choked down. We added a
tongue tie to help him with this and he was pretty much ready to win after
he trialled again."
Jockey Scott Galloway sustained a sprained ankle from the incident.

Faster
Son back in work
Promising sprinter Faster Son is back in work with Gold Coast trainer Trevor
Bailey.
The son of Fastnet Rock had a luckless campaign last time in, which was
hampered by wet tracks, wide barriers and washed out meetings.
“Things didn’t really go our way form the word go last time in. The first
meeting he was due to run in last prep at Cauflield was washed out. After
that I guess we were playing catch up football,” said Trainer Trevor Bailey.
“When we returned to Queensland we ran on one of the wettest Gold Coast
tracks I have ever seen.
“At the end of the campaign we struck yet another wet track in the Prime
Ministers Cup.
“His record might say he has won twice on the slow, but that is completely
deceptive as he is definitely a top of the ground horse.”
Still eligible for Class 6, Faster Son’s ultimate targets will be the first
two legs of the Summer Triple Crown in the $200,000 George Moore Stks
(1200m) and the $200,000 Doomben Stks (1350m).

Wet track
&
poor ride hamper Slick Image & Flying Minstrel
Hopes of a two track double were scuttled over the weekend
(July 16) thanks
to a poor ride and wet track.
Flying Minstrel took on a strong field of three year-olds at Doomben, but
was trapped three deep throughout thanks to a less than inspiring ride by
boom apprentice Tim Bell.
At the Gold Coast, Slick Image wasn’t at home on the wet track. Despite the
official track rating being recorded as Slow 7, I’ll give the game away if
it wasn’t at least a Heavy 9.
They were running more than 5 seconds outside the Class records all day.
That’s certainly Heavy in my view.
Supporters of both horses shouldn’t loose heart. Hopefully they can bounce
back at their next starts. |
Solid
debut for Platinum Lion
Platinum
Lion, a grey two year-old son of Sequalo, has debuted well with a solid
second at the Gold Coast last Month.
Prepared at the Gold Coast by Trevor Bailey, Platinum Lion showed good speed
off gate 1 to race in a prominent position throughout.
Ridden well by promising young Gold Coast apprentice Pat Keane, Platinum
Lion was defeated by the smart Santa Maura, who had previously recorded a
fourth in Listed company at Eagle Farm.
Platinum Lion has now been gelded and spelled in preparation for his three
year-old year.
Platinum Lion was selected and purchased by Grant Morgan of Ontrack
Thoroughbreds from the 2010 Magic Millions QTIS 600 Yearling Sale on the
Gold Coast. |

Barlinnie retired
High quality performer
Barlinnie has been retired from racing.
Barlinnie won two stakes races in Queensland under Trevor Bailey in the
Listed $200,000 Doomben Stakes (1350m) and the Listed $100,000 Sunshine
Coast Cup (1400m).
Barlinnie will now pursue a career in the dressage ring.
Barlinnie was secured by
Ontrack Thoroughbreds through a private purchase and syndicated to a group
of clients.
He previously raced in Melbourne under the care of Peter Moody where he was
stakes placed. |
Lucky
last share available in Haradasun colt
A final 10%
remains in the good looking Haradasun Colt thanks to a last minute drop out
by a previous owner.
The colt broke in very well and is currently in work at the Gold Coast with
Trevor Bailey and is available for inspection.
He is paid up for both
Magic Millions and BOBS.
"This colt moves along really
nicely. He has a good attitude around the stables and he has had a very good
grounding during his first preparation in the stables," said trainer Trevor
Bailey.
"Whilst his pedigree and size
suggest he will be better as 3yo, he has been a bit of a surprise early on
and has shown a bit of dash."
