Amigo Dominates at Queensland Debut
Saturday 25 April,
2009: Show A Heart three year-old Red Amigo gave his rivals a
galloping exhibition today to score by almost 8 lengths at the Gold Coast.
Prepared by Trevor Bailey, Red Amigo was formerly prepared at Rosehill by
leading Sydney trainer Chris Waller.
After three starts in the Sydney Provincials, Red Amigo was sent North
following a handy 3.3 len fifth at Hawkesbury over 1800m.
“Chris sent him up in great order, with plenty left in the tank and ready to
win,” said Grant Morgan.
“He (Red Amigo) didn’t look like measuring up to Sydney Saturday Metro grade
down there, so our policy is to move these horses where they can win in the
City.”
“We expected him to win today, but that was a much bigger margin than we
expected.”
“He should have a good future in Brisbane over a distance; his good early
speed will be an advantage as he matures.”
Racing again today over 1800m, Red Amigo bounced straight to the lead but
had plenty of pressure mid race by rival runners.
That pressure made little difference to the result, with Red Amigo clearing
out to win by seven and three quarter lengths.
Jockey Dan Griffin throttled back on the Chestnut to cruise to the line
untouched to score an impressive win.
Red Amigo is out of the Marauding mare Aurillac, and was secured at the 2007
Magic Millions Gold Coast Horses In Training Sale.
