Red Amigo Shows First Up Zip

Saturday 10 October, 2009: Promising young stayer Red Amigo landed an impressive victory at his first run back over an unsuitable trip at the Gold Coast today.

A four year-old by Show A Heart, Red Amigo two previous wins came over longer journeys of 1666m and 1800m, with today’s journey of 1200m appearing short of his best.

But with freshness on his side, Red Amigo bounced straight into the box seat before powering to the lead in the straight to score a convincing win.

Red Amigo carved out an impressive time of 1:09.84 for the 1200m journey, the last 600m in a slick 33.83.

Today’s win took Red Amigo’s career tally to 3 wins from just 7 starts, with the promise of much more to come.

Red Amigo’s victory brought up a double for trainer Trevor Bailey and Dan Griffin.

The pair combined earlier to score with promising three year-old Catallion.

Red Amigo was selected by Grant Morgan from the 2008 Magic Millions Horses In Training Sale.
