Slick Image strikes top form
Thursday
30 June, 2011: Promising three year-old Slick Image made a successful
return to the track by scoring a well supported first up win at the Gold
Coast today.
Prepared by Trevor Bailey for a large group of owners from Ontrack
Thoroughbreds, Slick Image extends his record to two wins from three starts.
Today's win comes off a layoff forced by racing on a fast Wyong track at his
last run in January this year.
"He jarred up badly on that track and we had to abort his preparation and
give him a break in the paddock and start again," said trainer Trevor
Bailey.
"I thought he (Slick Image) did a very good job today to defeat Rocker who
is obviously a promising horse.
Rocker ($2.60 eq fav) and Slick Image ($2.60 eq fav) dominated betting
pre post and staged a thrilling duel over the last 50m before Slick Image
prevailed narrowly.
"He was entitled to stop late as he had to work a bit early and he was first
up today. I think there is still plenty of improvement in him," said Bailey.
Slick Image recorded a time of 1:11.53 over the 1200m course on a slow 6
surface. He ran home in an impressive 34.90 for his final 600m.
A Magic Millions yearling, Slick Image will continue to go through his
grades following today's win.
"There isn't any rush with him. Scott (Galloway) said he feels he will get 1600m
so it will be good to take him through his grades and develop him into a
nice sprinter/miler."
