Underrated Purdy Scores On Mr Wang
Saturday 13 December,
2008:
Underrated Gold Coast based jockey Kelly Purdy proved she was more than an
equal to the boys by scoring on another long priced winner at the Gold Coast
today.
Purdy has earned a reputation for booting home good value winners at the
Gold Coast.
That reputation was confirmed again today when she got the narrow winning
decision aboard the Trevor Bailey prepared Mr Wang.
The five year-old Desert Prince gelding scored a last stride win in the
Class 3 Handicap (1400m).
Starting at the juicy price of $43 on the New South Wales tote, Mr Wang
triumphed narrowly over Best Bid ($3.70), with the warmly supported Swinging
to Win ($2.40 fav) in third place.
Mr Wang was having his first start under the care of Trevor Bailey.
After doing his earlier racing in Melbourne where he won two races, Mr Wang
was winless in 10 Queensland starts prior to today’s win.
The change of stables payed instant dividends for Mr Wang’s owners, headed
by Gold Coast businessman Danny Lesjak.
Lesjak part owns Labrador Engineering firm Camtech, which designs hi tech
moulds for the plastics industry.
Camtech’s high profile clients include Coca Cola and Dairy Farmers.
Lesjak has enjoyed good success as an owner on the Gold Coast as the part
owner of handy gallopers Fabiarna, Rumbird and Sovereign Dream.
